Creepy Queen Caught up with Taylor Marie, the frontwoman and creator of Entity Canada, to find out a little more about the community.
Creepy Queen: Why did you decide to create Entity?
Taylor: Being an alternative model myself, I was frustrated when trying to find
an outlet in my area. I would search online for networking sites, web
pages, agencies, and everything that came up was rooted in other
countries. Searching through modelmayhem and myspace for others
interested in 'alt' photography and modeling was tedious, so I created
a place online specifically for Canadians in the alternative fashion
and arts industry. Entity is 3 months young and almost at 800 members,
its had a great response so far.
CQ: What is Entity's goal/mission?
T: Entity has two missions. To celebrate and support the growing demand
for alternative models and talent in Canada and to promote wellness and
good self esteem, especially among models and young consumers. I
personally almost signed with a high fashion agency as a teen, and
through out my classes with them my self esteem actually dropped. They
pressured me to stay at a certain weight, keep my brows a certain way,
hair a certain colour.. self expression has always been important to
me, so being told what over all look to maintain caused me to loose my
sense of self. It doesn't surprise me when I hear of models dying of
eating disorders and struggling with drug addiction in the news. High
fashion agencies size restrictions and twisted ideals of beauty flat
out disgust me and the effects are horrendous. Young girls read
magazines and their self esteem is hurt because most don't look like
the average high fashion model. With that they turn to eating
disorders, substance abuse and other self destructive behaviors. I
think consumers want to see images of models who look more like them, a
little more variety then what the standard model can offer. Alternative
models are not only refreshing eye candy compared to what we are used
to seeing in ads and on runways, but I believe dismissing these size
requirements can ultimately reduce the negative effects brought on by
media.

CQ: What are the requirements to join Entity Canada?
T: Anybody can join! The site is not only open to those in the industry,
but fans as well. The only requirements are that you follow the site
guidelines. Entity is 16+, so we ask our fetish models and photogs to
refrain from posting nude and pornographic content, though they are
welcome to post links. We ask that our members don't spam the site,
harass each other, pretty standard stuff.
CQ: Alright, we're sold. Where do we sign up?
T: You can join and check out the site at entitycanada.ning.com.
Membership is requited to due to mild artistic nude content. We also
encourage you to join our facebook fan page, myspace and youtube
channel.
CQ: Do you guys have any events or promotions going on now?
T: We are very pleased to have a new intro. site in the works! When
that is up we will be launching a promotions company based in central
Ontario. And, Canada wide contests, campaigns and Entity merch are also being
worked on
