Tofu Guru - making tofu rad not scary!

Posted by missmuffcake at 12:13 AM on February 09, 2010 Comments comments (0)
By now everyone should know that I am vegan! As a vegan people automaticcly assume I love tofu - in this case the people are correct. I lovvveeeee tofu - I eat it daily! However tofu is not the only thing I am eating. I am always looking for new things to try and since I cannot find a cooking show on cable that fits my needs I go to YouTube to check out what Tofu Guru has cooking or uncooking when she happens to be doing raw!

Name: Brittany Roberts Age: 19 Location: Boston area, MA

How long have you been vegan?

A little over 3 years. (Halloween's my "anniversary")

What made you go vegan?

Research, basically. I was familiar with vegetarianism, but then I heard the word "vegan" and wanted to know what it entailed. After Googling "factory farms," there really was no going back.

What is your favorite way of promoting veganisim?

By setting a great example! It's all about the food, if you cook people delicious vegan food (and prove that you don't live on apples and twigs...), they'll be more receptive to the whole idea. Then when they hit the hard issues that most omnivores aren't used to thinking about(like the animal abuse, environmental harm, and health risks of a diet based on meat, eggs, and dairy), they'll already have positive feelings toward the vegan diet, and making changes to their own eating habits won't seem so drastic and scary.

What got you started on YouTube?

I love YouTube. I'm afraid it's a bit of an addiction. I love watchingvloggers share their opinions and sense of humor in bite-sized videos. So when I started my own show, I went for a similar quirky, off-the-cuff feel. TTG is first and foremost a podcast, but YouTube isso popular I figured I might as well post my episodes there as well, and now it's where most of my audience is!

Favorite ingredient to cook with?

Peanut butter. Hands Down.

Favorite meal to cook?

Something quick and simple: a bunch of vegetables, thrown in a frying pan, served over rice. I only get fancy on the show. smile

Any big plans for the future?

Well, this fall I'm headed to art school to study photography and design, so depending on my living conditions "The Tofu Guru" may become"Vegan Dorm Cooking"!

If you know me at all you know what a Morrissey/Smiths freak I am. From a lot of art (shrines, posters) and even lyrics tattooed on my arm (There is A Light That Never Goes Out) I cannot get enough. Since love is on the mind let me give some to Moz.

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen baking up vegan treats. My kitchen is a odd mix of 50s diner and pirate fun! I like finding cool things that make hosting vegan potlucks fun and to add to the quirkiness of my kitchen! Do you spend a lot of time in the kitchen? What are your must haves?

Saying Thanks!

Yesterday in the mail I received a sweet thank you card from a friend that totally put a smile on my face. I think a lot of people do not realize the power of saying 'thank you'. As an Etsy seller and buyer I think saying thanks is important. Some orders I receive come with a thank you (as simple as a printed note) and some do not. I am more inclined to buy from people who do say thank you. When sending out a order I always include a note thanking my customer!

Be it business, to a friend who did something awesome for you or just being nice here are some products that I think will make your thank you stand out.

More organizing 101 - ribbon storage

Posted by missmuffcake at 04:09 PM on January 10, 2010 Comments comments (2)
Do you have spools of ribbon or random things of embriodery floss just tossed about? I am always trying to search for ribbon in my craft room when a bow idea comes up. I usually cannot find what I want with a lot of hassle due to my ribbon stash being piled up in a crate.
I was looking for ways to organize my ribbons and floss this week. My mom gave me a box that held ribbon with a feed through slot however the box holds only 5 different things of ribbon - I have over 50 ribbon selections I need to tidey up. So I came across the links below. Maybe they will help you out. If you have more ideas please let me know.

Oriental Trading Company has many ribbon storage options for under $15: http://www.orientaltrading.com/
And of course check out these items on Etsy!

crafty clutter clean up

Posted by missmuffcake at 03:20 AM on January 03, 2010 Comments comments (5)
Are you a organized freak or an unorganized freak out? I am trying to organize my craft room/studio/office to suit my business needs more. The one product that has helped me out a lot is Sterlite containers . I buy mine at Target for about $15 for the 3 drawer cart on sale. From here I organize my drawers according to supplies such as yarn, embroidery, fabric ribbon and so on. I know the basic white color look a bit boring but they can be jazzed up with stickers, decals and paint. If you are lucky you can often find them in neon pink and green!

2730 - 3 Drawer Narrow Cart
From here you can get smaller containers (I found some at Ikea in neon colors in the kid's section) and organize things like beads and small parts. Make sure you can fit a few smallercontainers per container to keep down on clutter and maximize space. I also use zip lock bags and small cellophane baggies to store business cards and random objects. I have drawer devoted to organizational supplis like baggies and labels.

Organizing does not have to be stressful. Grab some tea and spend the afternoon in your space and clean up the clutter!
